VIETNAM
TSR EP NUMBER 1

This is the first of three limited edition 12" EPs from VietNam. Each of the three features a track from the band’s self-titled debut full-length, along with tracks at the band’s Brooklyn-based Freedom School Compound, a store-front apartment/studio. These recordings capture the band cutting loose, writing and recording at their will, and form a perfect counterpoint to their professionally recorded full-length.

This first 12” features "Te Quiero" which is written and sung by local neighborhood Puerto Rican guitar maestro Johnny Torres with VietNam as back up. Johnny Torres has been playing since the late-50s and is a regular fixture at VietNam’s notorious store front home. He dropped by during one of the band’s photo shoots and stuck around long enough to perform and record this song. "It’s Not Me" has been a live standard of the band’s for some time, although this is the first time that it has been officially released. The record closes with "Dorothy, Devil & the Lawyer," a reprise of the first track, "Priest, Poet & the Pig" in a “marching jug-band” style, that even features the sound of the band marching.

Each of these three EPs are pressed in a thousand copies a piece on 140 gram vinyl, packaged in two color hand-pulled silk-screened matching jackets, with silk-screened dust jackets/labels and are all hand numbered. They perfectly compliment each other providing a multi-faceted vision of the band, and capturing the full spectrum of VietNam’s sonic palette.
