GANG GANG DANCE “A nice accentuation on their current buzz as one of the hottest underground avant-noise acts.” - Exclaim As a last minute tour with Animal Collective was being booked Tim Dewit of Gang Gang Dance went into Junkyard Audio Salvage armed with reels of two track tape and various digital video all of which were made over the course of 2003. The intention was to create a live disc of a few tracks for a tour only edition but the end result was something very different. After having spent four days working 18 hours a day and sleeping on the control room floor Tim emerged with Hillulah: 33 minutes of music, culled from hours of source material and carefully sculpted together it creates a listening experience that was not all that dissimilar from bearing witness to a Gang Gang Dance show circa 2003. Chaotic, beautiful and somewhat out of control the end result is almost a feeling of utter hypnotic-induced exhaustion. Hillulah was originally released as a very limited tour-only CDR and then reissued as a more conventional CD release. It contains several video files of live performaces in 2003. |
