BLOOD LINES Blood Lines were a blistering, although short-lived quartet from NYC that brought together James Loman and Raquel Vogl (both previously in The Crainium) with the rhythm team of Allie Alvarado & Busy Gangnes. As a whole they formed what was an awe-inspiring outfit that baffled and inspired many an audience in NYC and on their 2005 US Tour with Gang Gang Dance. Theirs was a sound once described by someone as “a goth verion of Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band.” During the band’s short existence they recorded . We suppose a bit of back-story might be needed: The Crainium hailed out of DC in the 90’s and was comprised of James & Raquel alongside Brian Degraw & Tim Dewit, who now comprise half of Gang Gang Dance. After one and a half US tours the outfit imploded around the turn of the century, eventually depositing all four members in New York. From there James went on to form The Centuries; a duo which might be described as melding the aesthetics of The Living Theatre with Mars. Enter Busy & Alli who were running in different circles. Busy is also a member of Telepathe, who have been making more than a little headway in New York. Allie has been a member of numerous bands including The Coronation, and is currently working in Eyestek. The resulting sound of Blood Lines is like chaos on rails. Tight, controlled and angular while teeming with a dark kinetic energy. Anyone who had the priviledge of seeing the band live can testify to the intensity that the group brings, and which brought twelve squad cars into the streets of Seattle. was recorded at Junkyard Audio Salvage over a frantic month, and provides a snapshot of the brief existence of a band that turned many heads during its brief tenure. Highly original and challenging, it is music that continues the individual musical trajectory started more than ten years ago by The Crainium. "Reality is habitual. A ritual installed. From the cradle eats the sickened ape. FROM THE START WE FALL. They said, you should be grateful. They said you should be ashamed. To face life with suck humor and affection, clearly...INSANE." - ANOTHER END |
